2x2 aluminum gate side post for DIY gates
This 2×2 aluminum gate side post – the L-Side Post in our system – is sold boxed on its own for DIY gates. Order it when you already have a hinge post in place, when you are replacing a damaged side post, or when you want to buy the two sides of a wall-to-wall gate separately. It is 2x2in x 6ft, made of 6063-T6 aluminum with AAMA 2604 super-durable powder coating in black.

How it fits the gate system
Our DIY pedestrian gate kits list five post options. The first is the Hinge Post + L-Side Post pair for wall-to-wall installation, and this is the L-Side half of that pair. When to order the L-Side Post alone
Buying the side post separately makes sense in a few situations:
- The hinge side is already in place and only the opposite side needs a post.
- A side post was damaged and needs replacing without disturbing the hinge side.
- You are pairing it with the 8 ft hinge post and want to order each side on its own.
Because the box includes its own cap, baseplate, fixings and striker hardware, you do not need to source extra parts to install it. The aluminum will not rot or rust, and the black powder coating matches our black gate frames.
Ordering tips
- Match the post length to your gate height and the rest of your hardware.
- Check what surface the baseplate will fix to, and choose between the anchor bolt and wood screw accordingly.

Material & finish
What it is made of
(Box) 2x2in x 6ft L-Side Post is made from aluminum 6063-t6, finished with AAMA 2604 super-durable powder coating – Black.
6063-T6 is an architectural aluminum alloy made for extruded profiles. It gives clean, consistent shapes and takes a powder coating evenly, which is why it is widely used for fences, gates and other exterior building products.
AAMA 2604 is the American Architectural Manufacturers Association specification for high-performance organic coatings, powder coatings included, on aluminum extrusions. It sets test requirements for outdoor color and gloss retention, chalking and corrosion resistance.
